The slides shown above illustrate how Paul uses a preliminary drawing as a basis or blueprint for futher development for another work. Rather than copy, he adds and edits as he goes along, using the drawing as a guide. Since the preliminary composition is a panorama, he has decided to create the next work as a three part piece (triptych) that he is rendering in pastels. Shown here are the left and right panels. At this stage the work is fairly dark since he is working from dark to light.
